1. Write Now! Launch Event ñ Audubon Aquarium, New Orleans
10:30 ñ 11:15 a.m. at the plaza outside The Audubon Aquarium of the Americas
Governor Blanco; members of the Louisiana Congressional delegation; Sec. Scott Angelle, PACE representatives, such as President Benny Rouselle, and other local and statewide dignitaries kicked-off the 'Write Now' initiative on the banks of the Mississippi River in New Orleans. A giant 'Save America's WETLAND Write Now' postcard will be the backdrop for the event where all will participate in mock signing of the giant card. PACE representatives will announce their new web site designed for sending emails to leaders in Washington who will play such key roles in the success or failure of efforts to save and restore America's WETLAND. A contingent of oil & gas, emergency and agricultural vehicles and marine vessels on the river, representing the many values inherent in America's WETLAND, will provide a backdrop for the event designed to energize citizens and students write to people around the country about the value of coastal Louisiana and the emergency situation being faced if no one can turn back the tide of coastal land loss.
2. America's WETLAND Sponsor Reception/Lunch ñ Wyndham Canal Place Hotel
11:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. Special reception for America's WETLAND Sponsors
12:00 p.m. ñ 1:00 p.m. Special appreciation lunch for the companies, organizations and individuals who have been friends and supporters of the America's WETLAND Campaign.
A special reception will be held for a group of 25 leaders from the campaign's major sponsors. At noon, the group from the reception will move from the reception to a lunch with approximately 75 ñ100 representatives from the campaign's Cooperating Organizations and other friends of the campaign, along with representatives of companies that are considered top prospects for campaign sponsorship.
3. Bus Caravan ñ New Orleans to Houma
1:00 p.m. ñ 2:15 p.m. Travel to Houma via caravan
A caravan led by a bus of dignitaries and followed by vehicles representing the economic sectors of America's WETLAND and emergency vehicles deployed during hurricanes will depart from the New Orleans Wyndham Canal Place en route to Houma to dramatize the infrastructure concerns and other issues surrounding coastal land loss.
4. Victory Rally ñ Terrebonne High School, Houma
2:30 p.m. ñ 3:30 p.m. Energy Bill Celebration Pep rally at Terrebonne High School
This event is a celebration of Energy Bill success and will have the feel of a pep rally with bands, hand-painted signs, hurricane flags, and America's WETLAND banners. Governor Blanco and Senator Landrieu will join with local political, business, government and education leaders to highlight the significance of the Energy Bill legislative victory and the need to stay the course in continuing to make our case to the nation. Terrebonne Parish will be lauded for it's success with early letter-writing campaigns and as a model for a new statewide Department of Education-backed back-to-school letter-writing program that combines learning about the State's coastal land loss issues with the skills needed to write a persuasive letter. Speakers will also energize those in attendance to tell America and the world about the urgency of turning the tide of Louisiana's coastal land loss through the 'Write Now' project and through the P.A.C.E. email contact website. The program currently includes remarks from Governor Blanco, U.S. Senator Mary Landrieu, Secretary Angelle, State Senator Reggie Dupre, PACE Vice President Charlotte Randolph, Terrebonne Parish School Superintendent Ed Richard and Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce President Alexis Duval.
